Nat Dempsey is a singer-songwriter currently based in Manchester who takes on the feeling of his rural upbringing in the Lake District and weaves it into the fabric of his songs. Following on from the atmospheric grit of previous releases, Dempsey takes a delicate but confident step into sunlit indie-folk territory. His upcoming release, Apparency, tells of a personal narrative of learning to take the advice you so freely give to others. His strength lies in the details: the way he frames growth not as grand revelation but as cherishing “the riches in small moments.”
The harmonies provided by Eve Dunn add another layer to the song really fleshing out the mid section before Nat delivers some vocalisations on the word "again". It allows the melody and emotion to linger without being tied down to specific words, creating a feeling of reflection and space. The instrumental itself is fairly stripped back - with a nice little appearence of a tambourine reminicent of Bombay Bicycle Club and their 2014 album So Long, See You Tomorrow and some early Embrace. If you are a fan of such bands and consider yourself an indie folk pop fan then this will be right up your alley.
'Apparency' is dropping on May 29th and is up for pre-save now via Nat's linktree which you can find on his Instagram . Dempsey is also taking his music to the stage with several upcoming live dates, including a performance at the multi-stage event Llamapalooza at Deansgate Mews on July 17th. Given the intimacy of this new single, his live show promises to be a highlight for fans of thoughtful, melody-driven indie folk.
